Hepatology &
Interventional Endoscopy

The liver rarely complains until late, and the gut is hard to judge from the outside. One of these services looks after the liver — fatty liver, hepatitis, abnormal liver function, chronic liver disease. The other is how we look inside: upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic, done in-house.

Hepatology

Diagnosis and long-term care of the liver, bile ducts and gallbladder.

The liver is a patient organ. It absorbs years of damage without much protest, which is why so much liver disease is found by accident — a line on a routine blood report, an ultrasound done for something else entirely. By the time symptoms arrive, the condition has usually been in progress for a while.

Hepatology at PAL MED starts from that reality. An abnormal liver function test is treated as a question worth answering, not a number to repeat in six months. Consultation, diagnostic blood testing and pharmacy sit under one roof, so investigation and treatment do not stall between appointments.

What this covers

  • Fatty liver

The most common finding of all, and the most commonly ignored. Assessed properly and managed through diet, weight, alcohol and the metabolic factors driving it.

  • Hepatitis

Viral and non-viral inflammation of the liver — diagnosis, treatment and the monitoring that decides whether it is settling or progressing.

  • Abnormal liver function

Raised enzymes or bilirubin on a report, with no explanation attached. We work out the cause rather than waiting to see if the next test looks better.

  • Chronic liver conditions

Long-standing liver disease that needs steady review — symptom control, medication, diet, and testing at sensible intervals.

  • Liver diseases, broadly

Jaundice under investigation, alcohol-related liver damage, drug- and medication-related liver injury, and liver problems found alongside digestive complaints.

  • Worth booking sooner

Yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine or pale stools, swelling of the abdomen or legs, persistent unexplained tiredness, or a liver function test your last doctor called "slightly off".

Interventional
Endoscopy

Looking inside the digestive tract — and, where it is needed, treating what is found in the same sitting.

Interventional endoscopy at PAL MED Speciality Clinic
Ask about a procedure

Endoscopy is the point where guesswork ends. A thin flexible camera shows the lining of the digestive tract directly, so inflammation, ulcers, narrowing, bleeding points and growths are seen rather than inferred from symptoms and blood reports.

"Interventional" is the part that matters most: the same procedure that finds the problem can often treat it — take a sample, stop a bleed, widen a narrowing, remove a polyp. Because endoscopy sits in the same clinic as the consultation, the step from "we should look" to "we have looked" is short.

What this covers

  • Upper GI endoscopy

Examination of the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine — for reflux that will not settle, persistent pain, difficulty swallowing or suspected ulcers.

  • Colonoscopy

Examination of the large bowel — for a lasting change in bowel habit, bleeding, suspected inflammatory bowel disease, and screening where risk or family history calls for it.

  • Diagnostic procedures

Direct visual assessment with biopsy where required, so treatment starts from a confirmed diagnosis instead of a probable one.

  • Therapeutic endoscopy

Treatment delivered through the scope itself — polyp removal, control of bleeding, dilatation of a narrowed segment and related procedures.

  • Before you come in

You will be told exactly how long to fast and which of your regular medicines to pause or continue. Bring your previous reports, and arrange for someone to accompany you home.

  • Usually recommended when

Symptoms have not responded to treatment, there is bleeding from anywhere in the digestive tract, swallowing is difficult, or a diagnosis needs to be confirmed before long-term treatment begins.

How the day works

  1. 01

    Before

Fasting and medication instructions given in advance, with your questions answered first.

  2. 02

    The procedure

The examination itself is short. Comfort measures are discussed with you beforehand.

  3. 03

    After

A short rest at the clinic, and clear instructions on eating, activity and what to watch for.

  4. 04

    Findings

What was seen, what it means, and the treatment plan that follows — explained in plain language.

A liver report you do not understand, or a symptom nobody has looked at directly, is worth one appointment. Both start in the same consulting room.
